In 1987, when we at Tebas Coiduras and associates decided to specialise in Sports Law through
LAW SPORT, we realised that this was an emerging area of law, unexplored and in need of experts on the subject, as I found out during my early law career, and when I had the opportunity to become the Chairman of Sociedad Deportiva Huesca, currently in the Second Division of the Spanish football league. At that time,
LAW SPORT was the first law firm in Spain, and one of the first in the world, to specialise in Sports Law.
Nearly twenty-five years later, the picture has changed a great deal. Sports law has established itself as a discipline, and as part of this process, more firms have appeared to offer their services in the same field, although not always with the same degree of specialisation. And now the different branches of sports are constantly looking for experts to advise them and defend their rights, both at the national level and in international operations.
To meet this challenge, we at LAW SPORT have increased our workforce, we have enhanced our specialisation and we have invested in continual training for our personnel, using the latest technology and opening new offices in Spain, Europe and America, in our own name and through our agreement with Corporate Alia. Also, our membership of the European Association of Attorneys (AEA) enables us to act in almost every country in the world, on all five continents.
In
LAW SPORT we provide experience and specialisation, dealing with our clients directly and personally, characteristics which differentiate us and let us maintain our position at the forefront of the world’s specialist sports law firms. Any time, anywhere, and on all subjects. Using the latest technology, our team of lawyers and economists work together to offer integrated, multidisciplinary advice, and if necessary, we can act to defend our clients’ interests against Federations, Leagues, Public Administrations, arbitration panels, courts and tribunals. Our presence in Lausanne enables us to act with the best guarantees before international sports associations (COI, UEFA, FIFA, FIBA, IHF, EHF, etc.) and the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS-CAS).
The result of all this hard work is a substantial increase in the number, countries of origin, and satisfaction of our clients (clubs, sports corporations, athletes, technicians, agents, etc), the best indication that we are on the right course. Our work is valued, and it gives us great satisfaction to see our clients choose to return to us when the need arises.
My sincere hope is that if you need a team of professionals specialising in sports law, you will give us the opportunity to help you. With my warmest regards,
Javier Tebas Medrano
Managing Partner of Law Sport
